Are you scream ready for Halloween Horror Nights 31 at Universal Orlando Resorts?

Updated: Sep 21, 2022

You have booked your killer vacation to Universal Orlando for Halloween Horror Nights 31

but you are not familiar with the theming of scare houses? You could just go and be surprised or why not have a viewing party? Grab your friends and keep the popcorn flowing as this list will keep you busy as you get prepared for your upcoming vacation at Universal. This summer Universal has teased us by casually dropping which houses will be featured during Halloween Horror Nights. The full line up has been released and includes Halloween, The Horrors of Blumhouse, The Weekend: Afterhours Nightmare, Universal Monsters: Legends Collide, Spirits of the Coven, Bugs: Eaten Alive, Fiesta de Chupacabras, Hellblock Horror, Deadman’s Pier: Winters Wake, and Descendants of Destruction. The big question is what should you watch?

Let’s kick it off with the renowned slasher himself, Michael Myers. This scarehouse is said to be themed off the original 1978 classic of Halloween. While there are technically 13 movies in the franchise you really only need to watch the first one to be ready for what this house has in store for you. The Horrors of Blumhouse are packing this house with a bloodcurdling double feature! Freaky and The Black Phone are the two movies that will have you primed up for this house of horrors. It's an interesting combo but Blumhouse never disappoints when it comes to scary movies!

This next house I am very excited about. I grew up on the Universal Studios classic horror movies, so Universal Monsters: Legends Collide is one I will probably attempt twice! You are going to have to dig deep in the archives for these. Queue up The Wolfman (1941), The Mummy (1932) and Dracula (1931). The dynamic trio of classic scareactors including Lon Chaney Jr., Bela Lugosi, and Boris Karloff will surely refresh your memory as to why Universal is known for their scary movies!

Universal loves to showcase some of their licensed movies in their scarehouses but they also do an amazing job at creating haunted houses from the creative team's imagination; however here are some recommendations to help set the stage for what you could encounter at HHN31. For Spirits of the Coven I would put Coven on your watch list. Fiesta de Chupacabras you should prepare by watching El Chupacabras. For Hellblock Horrors there is a movie called Hellblock 13 that seems to align closely with the theme of this haunted house.

Whether you get your scream squad together for over 20 hours of spine-chilling tales or you just pick a few, this list will definitely kickstart your scare in the right direction!
